What we do

Data, AI and technology consulting, from strategy to delivery.

Strategy, hands-on delivery or both. The services overlap, so you don't need to decide which one fits before we talk.

Data Strategy & Intelligence

Make your information easier to trust, use and improve. We help set the direction for data and reporting, connect systems and design the foundations that support better decisions. Where a platform change is needed, we help work through the migration strategy, readiness and delivery implications.

Where we can help

We need a data or reporting strategy.
Current-state assessment, business priorities, information ownership, reporting principles and a sequenced roadmap with decision points.
Our reports disagree or take too long.
Agreed measures and definitions, source mapping, reconciled reporting, improved data flows and clear ownership.
Our information is spread across systems.
Integration design, data pipelines, platform options, governed data foundations and usable analytics.
We're planning a migration.
Dependency discovery, migration options and sequencing, a readiness assessment, and a reconciliation and acceptance approach.
We collect operational or sensor data.
Reliable ingestion, quality checks, storage and access design, and operational reporting that suits field conditions.

What you might come away with

  • Data or reporting strategy
  • Agreed measures and definitions
  • Current-state architecture
  • Integration design
  • Migration readiness assessment

Who we help

Data and technology consulting for government, infrastructure and business.

Based in Cairns, working with organisations of every scale across Far North Queensland, regional Australia and nationally.

  • Government & Communities

Connecting information, improving services and supporting responsible digital capability, with respect for data ownership, governance and community needs.

  • Infrastructure & Utilities

Making operational, asset and sensor information more useful through integration, intelligence and better decision support, designed for remote sites and patchy connectivity.

  • Regional & Growing Businesses

Simplifying operations, understanding performance and making practical use of data and technology, including tourism businesses and organisations working across multiple sites.

  • Enterprise & Transformation

Supporting complex data environments, migration, reporting, integration and delivery across established organisations, alongside your teams and vendors.

  • Delivery Partners & Advisers

Experienced data, reporting or architecture capability for consultancies, IT providers, accountants and project teams, with roles and client ownership agreed up front.

Built in Far North Queensland

  • Distance is part of the design

Solutions need to work across large areas and remote sites, not just in a city office.

  • Proportionate investment

Scope is shaped around the value, budget and capacity of your organisation.

  • Face to face when it matters

In the room for workshops locally, and working remotely right around the country.

These describe the kinds of challenges we help with. They aren't published client engagements.

How we work

Advice, delivery or embedded leadership, shaped around what you need.

An independent view, a clear strategy, delivery leadership or help building something. Advisory-only work is just as valid as a build, and most work starts with one focused first step.

  • Advice and strategy

Reviews, data and reporting strategies, migration planning, architecture and roadmaps.

Scope and outputs agreed up front.

  • Delivery and implementation

Integration, reporting, platforms, automation, prototypes and targeted solutions.

Agreed stages, acceptance criteria and a clear way of handling change.

  • Leadership and capability

Embedded senior support, managing or uplifting a delivery team, mentoring and ongoing advisory.

An agreed role, time commitment, duration and set of outcomes.

How a typical engagement runs

A flexible shape, not a sequence you have to buy. Some work only needs one stage.

  1. Stage 1: Discover

Understand the business, the challenge, the data, the technology and what success should look like.

You come away with: A shared, plain-English understanding of the problem and what good looks like.

  2. Stage 2: Design

Define a practical approach, prioritise opportunities and create a solution suited to your environment.

You come away with: A recommended approach, with clear scope, sequencing and the reasoning behind it.

  3. Stage 3: Deliver

Turn the plan into working technology through prototypes, implementation and collaboration with your team.

You come away with: A working solution, tested against the agreed acceptance criteria and ready for your team to use.

  4. Stage 4: Evolve

Measure what is working, improve the solution and build internal capability for what comes next.

You come away with: A solution that keeps getting better, and a team ready to take it further.

What we agree before work starts

  • Objectives, deliverables, responsibilities, fees and how the work will be accepted are agreed before work begins.
  • Documentation and knowledge transfer are part of the delivery, so your team can own what comes next.
  • We work through access you control and data handling you've agreed to, with people reviewing AI output where it matters.
  • The first conversation is free. Assessment and design work is scoped and paid, so it gets done properly.

About LANCELOT

An independent data and technology consultancy, based in Cairns.

LANCELOT Consulting is an independent, founder-led data and technology consultancy based in Cairns, working with organisations across Far North Queensland and Australia. We help connect technology decisions with the work required to deliver them, alongside your own teams and existing partners.

That might mean setting a clearer direction, making information easier to trust, strengthening delivery or getting a practical solution working. We shape the work around what you need and stay clear about what we're there to do.

Experience across data, integration, delivery and AI.

Depth in data, reporting, migration and delivery, kept current through ongoing, hands-on work in AI, automation and product prototyping.

  • Data and reporting strategy

Developing data and reporting strategies that clarify what information an organisation needs, how it should be organised and where effort will make the most difference.

  • Migration, architecture and integration

Shaping migration strategies and working through architecture, data and integration decisions, including in Oracle and other enterprise environments, so the intended direction connects with what needs to happen in delivery.

  • Delivery leadership and team capability

Leading and managing delivery teams, strengthening ways of working and turning complex priorities into deliverable plans, whether the engagement calls for leadership, capability uplift or an agreed part of delivery.

  • AI, automation and product prototyping

Designing and prototyping AI-enabled products, agentic workflows and practical automation: finding worthwhile opportunities, testing ideas quickly, connecting AI with trusted business information and building in the human oversight responsible use needs.

The principles behind our advice.

  • Start with the problem

Technology is only useful when it solves the right problem, so we ask a lot of questions first.

  • Independent by design

Not tied to any vendor or platform. Sometimes the best fit is something you already own.

  • Honest about AI

Brilliant for some problems, overkill for others. We'll tell you which one you've got.

  • Simple when simple works

Not every challenge needs a big project or a big budget. Sometimes the best answer is small.

  • Plain English, always

You should understand every recommendation and why we made it, minus the jargon.

  • Governance from the start

Privacy, security, data ownership and human oversight are built in from day one.

Insights

Practical insights on data, AI and technology decisions.

All insights
  • Data Strategy

Start with the decision, not the dashboard

Reporting projects often start with the visuals. The more useful starting point is the decision someone needs to make, and the information that would change it.

  • AI & Automation

Choosing a sensible first AI use case

The best first AI project is rarely the most ambitious one. It's the one with clear value, manageable risk and a team that actually wants to use it.

  • Regional Perspective

Making data useful in regional operations

When sites are far apart and teams are small, good information saves real time and travel. Here is what that can look like in practice.

  • Digital Delivery

    Prototype before you commit

A working prototype answers questions a requirements document can't. It's also clear about what it doesn't prove, and that matters just as much.

FAQ

Common questions

How does an engagement usually start?

With a conversation about what you're trying to achieve and whether we're a good fit. That first chat is free. If there's a sensible next step, such as a review, assessment or design work, we'll scope it and agree fees before it starts.

Do you build solutions, or only advise?

Both. Advice and strategy are legitimate pieces of work on their own. When it makes sense, we also design and build, or lead the team that does.

Do you work with small and growing businesses as well as large organisations?

Yes. The challenges come in every size, from a local operator with one painful process to a complex enterprise environment. We size the work to what you need, not the other way round.

Do you only work in Cairns and Far North Queensland?

No. We're based in Cairns and work with organisations across Queensland and Australia, remotely and on site. Where on-site time matters, such as discovery workshops or key milestones, we agree it as part of the scope.

Do you work with Oracle environments?

Yes. Oracle and enterprise data environments are a core part of our experience, including reporting, integration, migration and architecture decisions on and around Oracle platforms. We're still independent, so we'll recommend what suits your situation rather than defaulting to any one vendor.

How do you approach community and government data?

With respect for public accountability, privacy, data ownership and the communities being served. Where information relates to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, we recognise that communities should own and control that data.

Can you work alongside our team, vendors or other consultancies?

Yes, and we'd encourage it. We work with your people and partners, or contribute to another firm's engagement, with roles and responsibilities agreed before the work starts.

Can part of the fee be linked to outcomes?

For suitable projects, yes. We assess this together and establish the baseline, responsibilities and measurement approach before work begins.
